SES, a leading global content connectivity solutions provider, celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new U.S. technology and operations hub facility located at 8050 Piney Branch Lane in Bristow this week. SES is headquartered in Luxembourg and operates 70 telecommunication satellites across two orbits in space.
As SES’s central operations hub in the United States, the new building features two cutting-edge operations centers which allows the company to operate its satellites and to provide video and data network services to customers all around the world.
The Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Tourism (PWCDEDT) successfully competed with Maryland and Washington, D.C. for the project in 2021. The project represents $17 million in capital investment and 200 employees at the location.
"The decision to build our hub in Bristow was a strategic move influenced by various factors: the dynamic and expanding technological landscape of this area, its proximity to Dulles Airport and our adjacent Washington Media Port (WMP) facility—all of which supports our ambition to be one of the top three leading satellite providers in the world," said Adel Al-Saleh, CEO of SES. "We would like to thank the representatives from Prince William County and the Commonwealth of Virginia for the excellent partnership and for making the community so attractive for global businesses like ours."
In addition to a $500,000 Economic Development Opportunity Fund (EDOF) grant from Prince William County, Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with then-Governor Ralph Northam to approve a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Prince William County with the project.
"We are thrilled to welcome SES, an industry leader in satellite operations, to Prince William," said Deshundra Jefferson, Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. "Connectivity is crucial for the seamless communications channels our global societies have come to rely on. Having a global leader like SES in Prince William County will help enhance our economic diversity."
"Congratulations to SES on establishing their U.S. technology and operations hub in Bristow," said Tom Gordy, Brentsville District Supervisor. "This affirms Prince William County's abundant, skilled, and talented workforce that's perfectly suited to bolster one of the world's leading satellite enterprises."
