This week George Mason University announced The President’s Innovation Advisory Council (PIAC), a powerhouse coalition of business executives and public sector leaders to help guide its tech-centric Arlington campus. Christina Winn, executive director of Prince William County Department of Economic Development was named to the council.
“I am excited to be part of PIAC and to deepen my relationships within George Mason University and the leaders on the council,” said Winn. “At the core of the council’s work is ensuring that business owners have access: to new ideas, new people, and new technology. I am grateful to not only bring my expertise to this space, but also the goals of the Prince William County business owners, especially those in our bioscience cluster, which is anchored by GMU’s Science and Technology Park in Innovation Park, Manassas.”
Aneesh Chopra, president of CareJourney and the nation’s chief technology officer during the Obama administration, will chair the council. Other companies and groups represented include Deltek, Siemens USA, Sandy Spring Bank, Dovel Technologies, Verizon, the NAACP, ByteMethod and the Peterson Cos.
Winn is the previous director of the Business Investment Group for Arlington Economic Development and was a key negotiator behind the Amazon HQ2 decision.
"These council members have been carefully selected for their knowledge and expertise, and also because they represent industries and organizations that are critical to the ecosystem we want to build," GMU President Gregory Washington said in a release. "We are bringing together community leaders that have a stake and an interest in helping us create an inclusive innovation economy."
