Every business in Prince William County has a unique path, marked by hard work, challenges, and triumphs. From local restaurants and boutiques to cutting-edge tech startups and service providers, these businesses are deeply embedded in our community. Their impact goes beyond economic growth or creating jobs to fostering a sense of belonging.

Launching September 23, Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Tourism (PWCDEDT) will expand the Make Your Mark advertising campaign through November 8, 2024.

By partnering with iHeartMedia and reaching an even broader audience across the region, listeners across the region will hear the mini-stories of 14 different Prince William small business owners —whether they're streaming music, commuting to the radio, or enjoying their favorite podcast.

This advertising campaign doesn’t just boost visibility for these entrepreneurs; it encourages residents to support the local businesses that fuel Prince William County’s growth.

Listen to all 14 Make Your Mark mini-stories!

Earlier this year, the department piloted the first version of this advertising campaign on WTOP radio and the local NPR station WAMU from late April to early June, during May's Business Appreciation Month.

"While each business has its own story, they all reflect themes of perseverance, community impact, and innovation," said Christina Winn, executive director at PWCDEDT.  "From family-owned shops that have served locals for generations to exciting new ventures breaking into their industries, these stories inspire and encourage other entrepreneurs to strengthen the community’s support for local businesses."

How You Can Support Local Businesses

Supporting small businesses is more important than ever. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Listen to the stories: Tune in to iHeartMedia stations to hear these shoutouts and explore the stories behind these businesses.
  • Shop and enjoy local businesses: Make a conscious choice to support these businesses by shopping local and spreading the word.
  • Follow their journeys: Find @PWCDED and @VisitPrinceWilliam on social media channels for updates on the campaign and learn more about the businesses featured.

Finally, stay tuned to save the date for our annual Make Your Mark Business Celebration each May. This initiative embodies PWCDEDT’s commitment to fostering an environment where small businesses can thrive.

Our goal is to continue providing resources and support to ensure that entrepreneurs have the tools they need to succeed and contribute to the future growth of Prince William County.
